Open Meeting at Bedford 1st February 2012

Today's joke from Mike: The vicar announced that the theme of his sermon would be 'Temperance'
As he went on ,the vicar's voice and demeanor became more and more passionate and inspired. He voice raised as he said,' If I had all the barrels of beer in the world , I would throw it in the river. If I had all the wine in the world, he would throw it in the river and if I had all the whisky in the world , I would throw it in the river'' exhausted he sat down and there was a stunned silence.
After a long pause he stood up and said,'We will now sing our final hymn number365:
'Shall we gather by the River'
Mike spent some time explaining why we are having the trial meeting at King's Place in April and of the other options available to us. (1) Corn Exchange (2) Kings Place (3) stay at the two venues we now have but operate a closed door policy when we are full.
If we take option (1) or (2) we will only have one meeting a month instead of the present two.
On April 17th 2012, we are holding our Kempston Meeting at Kings Place (old Crayola building). There will be a general discussion at the Open Forum in June.

From this month until March, Adrian Bointon who is Director of Music at Christ the Corner Stone Church Mk is giving lectures on various musical subjects at the Salvation Hall. All details can be obtained from Linda Reed or see the website at

Groups: from Ken Thomas
Pam Laycock, with the help of Vreta Bagilhole plan a course, entitled "An introduction to family history research" and will consist of 6 sessions at dates and times to be agreed once they have enough people interested. The number should be limited to 6 to 8 people. I have opened a list on my table so come and see me afterwards if you are interested.

Gill Kilby was contacted by Dunstable “ Dolls House Group”, inviting her “Miniatures Group” to meet up with them in either March or April. The plan is to initially meet at Poplars Garden Centre for tea and a chat so they can exchange ideas and tips, and to make new friends.

If any other groups would like me to contact other U3As, or wish to do it themselves it sounds like a good way to increase the knowledge of the subject you are attending.

I have a full list of groups looking for new members on my table, Remember, for many you don’t have to be experienced, we are all here to learn and many of my group leaders tell me they look forward to inexperienced members.
