Lochs and Glens Holiday September    Jacky
Staying at Loch Achray Hotel
We set off                                                            Mike Eastwood
Our journey north took us via Stirling and on to Callander - ‘Gateway to the Highlands’. On through the Trossachs, an area of outstanding natural beauty, to Achray.

Where we went next:

Queen Victoria's Tour of the Trossachs
Queen Victoria visited the Trossachs in 1859, when she formally inaugurated the Glasgow water supply, and again in 1860 when she sailed along the northern part of Loch Lomond and was entranced by the beauty of her surroundings. Today’s excursion visits Stronachlachar on Loch Katrine where she opened the sluice gates that first allowed water to flow the 34 miles into Glasgow. Afterwards we continue to Inversnaid, beautifully set on the lochside and, following a short stop, we board our cruise boat that will take us along the very same stretches of Loch Lomond that so impressed Her Majesty some 140 years earlier.

 Glamis Castle
Today’s excursion takes us north via Fair City of Perth, then on to Blairgowrie passing the famous Meikleour beech hedge. Continue to our destination, 'lamis Castle, a royal residence since the 14th century and childhood home to the late Queen Mother. This imposing five-storey tower block comprises many sumptuous rooms with a rich range of pictures, furniture and tapestries. The tour includes many areas of the castle including the Royal apartments. The beautiful and extensive grounds are also well worth seeing.

 Edinburgh, Royal Yacht Britannia
For many of our guests this will be the highlight of their holiday - an opportunity to explore the Royal Yacht Britannia at her new home in Edinburgh’s Leith Docks. This fascinating tour will cover five decks and will include a visit to the bridge, the state dining room and drawing room, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh’s bedrooms, the engine room, the captain’s cabin and the galleys and new for this year a fascinating insight into the crews quarters – in remarkable contrast to the opulence of the royal suites. The visit is expected to last two hours and will be followed by time for general sightseeing or shopping in central Edinburgh.
